I've been using DJGPP on a Windows/DOS system to communicate to a 
memory-mapped PCI device, however, these programs need to be run on 
Redhat Linux 9 (RH9).  As a complete Linux novice, RH9 and DOSEMU have 
been installed but the djgpp executable, which was compiled on Win98SE, 
got "std_port_ind(0xCF8) port server unavailable" and 
"std_port_outd(0xCF8, 0x0) port server unavailable" errors.  Any idea if 
  this should have worked or how to fix the error?

My next thought is to compile the source on the Linux machine after 
installing DJGPP.  I'm a little confused on how to install DJGPP.  Can I 
just use the Linux "unzip" command to "install" all the files into 
/home/tim/djgpp and then modify the DOSEMU autoexec.bat file?
