Oh. I don't think that approach will work. Perl 5.8.0 comes with a lot more
modules, e.g.: some new IO::* classes. It looks like the Unicode support is
pretty different as well.

Maybe we should just remove the package or mark it as deprecated or
"dangerous", until it's been ported?

I keep meaning to look at porting 5.8.0. But there's just not enough time in
the day. ;)
