On a Unix console, you shouldn't need the -nw switch, since Emacs 
defaults to no-windows mode there.

The DJGPP port defines its own ``window system'' which implements colors, 
mouse, and menus.  So using -nw with the DJGPP port removes many valuable 
features; don't do that.
