A quick test showed that some of them show this problem - but others don't! By putting some echo statements into autoexec.nt, I was able to track the problem down (on one system) to a statement helpfully migrated to my autoexec.nt that didn't didn't work under command.com. REM'ing this made the problem disappear. Who knows what else is going on with all the boxes out there ...
