I just had the following problem: I installed a (commercial) software package that came with "some kind of" GCC cross compiler. Without any questions - as usual in Windows environments - it added several environment variables to my autoexec.bat. Among those GCC_EXEC_PREFIX. The next time I run gcc (DJGPP) I got the well known "installation problem" message... I know that this is not a problem of DJGPP but it could easily be avoided by having GCC_EXEC_PREFIX in djgpp.env by default. The other compiler is not DJGPP based so it doesn't care about djgpp.env.
