I did think of one thing. Windows has something called a swapfile. Swapfiles tend to get scattered across the drive over time (especially variable sized swapfiles). Any hidden/system file on the drive will not be moved by DEFRAG. Try defragmenting with the /h option. It used to work under DOS and I see no reason why M$ would remove it. (defrag /h would also defragment hidden files, but not files labeled as system files). Hope this helps a bit. Thomas J.
