The program was copied via cut-and-paste, so that is not the problem.
Obviously there is something wrong with my Win98 setup, and it's
something I'm not too worried about (I primarily work under a DOS box,
except for Internet stuff).

Sorry - I'm too used to error handling via exceptions to know how to use
errno in any detail.
