If they really are .txt files, that's exactly your problem. You should
name them ending in '.c', not '.txt'.

Generally, please try to avoid telling us what did *not* happen. Tell
us what *did* happen, instead. The symptoms of the failure will help
the experts to find your problem. So far, you're behaving like the
proverbial housewife calling a car repair shop: "My car won't
start. What's the reason?".
