And while you're just learning C++ (from one of those books), before
you get into platform specific stuff, hang out in
alt.comp.lang.learn.c-c++ and comp.lang.c++

Then, once you learn the lingo, you're ready to specialize in one or
more platforms. If 32-bit DOS is your thing, you'll want
comp.os.msdos.djgpp and comp.os.msdos.programmer.

And don't buy any programming books from Amazon. Buy from Fatbrain or
BN.com instead.
