Actually, I think DJGPP is as simple as it gets. Perhaps you inadvertently bumped into some snag, or missed some simple solution to some problem. Suppose you tell specifically what are the ``overcomplicated'' things that you saw in DJGPP. I'm sure each one of the problems has a simple solution.
