Is is named after Ada Byron, which is recognised to be the world's frist programmer back in 1851. The language looks a bit like a mix between modern PASCAL and JAVA. There is a very fixed structure (just like PASCAL), and works moduled (well, packages). It has a very tied type definition just like most modern languages such as PASCAL, JAVA, etc. It was especially developed for scientific purposes just like FORTRAN. And was immediatly organised by a commity and focused on an ISO standard. The latest incarnations are Object-Oriented.
