If you turn it off *before* unzipping, yes.

Btw, I have never seen any report that explained exactly how to turn
off NameNumericTail on NT, and neither did I see anybody who actually
did that and lived to tell the story ;-).  I suspect the instructions
are somewhat different, so if somebody have that figured out, please
post here what you learned.
