Programming for a multitasking, GUI - OS can never be simpler than programming for a single-user, single-task, non-GUI, rather-simple OS (yes, this is DOS :-). I have been programming all kinds of software under DOS for a couple of years now, and I have also done some Windows programming. Somethings are easier under Windows (networking is a clear example), but for many other things, DOS is much easier.
