VESA and IBM have the values in your standards, I got some information from monitor's manuals that state they are showing values from those standards ;-) To calculate my modes I use my calculator program ;-)) If you want to see some values I use download FreeBE/AF sources and look in the TGUI driver, this driver doesn't use BIOS at all (PCI P&P detection, text mode, graphic modes, 2D acceleration, etc included).
