You might need to enlarge the compiler's stack size.  The 
compiler is cc1.exe; you use stubedit to change various 
settings.  See section 6.6 of the FAQ.

Do you really need to be compiling such large files?  Isn't it 
possible to split them into smaller pieces?

Perhaps; see chapter 6 of the FAQ.  I looked briefly but didn't 
see any reference to GPFs though.
