You can try MikAlleg. Or JGMOD if you use Allegro. JGMOD is an add-on library for Allegro. Mikalleg is converted from Mikmod so it can be compatible with Allegro but it is a stand-alone library. Allegro is not needed. >So, I need a free- or shareware soundblaster compatible soundsystem ... Any >suggestions? JGMOD is a guestware. Just sign the jgmod guestbook and you are ok to use it for free. Original author of Mikmod abandoned it and it is now free. So, Mikalleg is free as well. You don't need to pay the original author. You can obtain jgmod or Mikalleg from http://surf.to/jgmod http://www.geocities.com/siliconvalley/vista/8890 http://www.jgmod.home.ml.org
