Try rebooting before running gcc.

If that doesn't work, please read all of chapter 6 of the FAQ, and 
particularly section 6.12.  Then (if you need to) post again, 
including all the information section 6.12 requests.  Also consider 
downloading DJVERIFY, a diagnostic tool that checks your 
installation.  I think the URL is http://www.cs.com/fighteer/ but I 
can't get through at the moment to check, sorry.
