The actual directory where you point TMPDIR is not important. It can be anywhere on your system. The important part is not to edit DJGPP.ENV unless you absolutely have no other way to solve your problems, and even then it is best to ask here. In this case, setting TMPDIR in the environment (e.g., in AUTOEXEC.BAT) to your RAM disk is all you need. But then again, there are no particular reasons to remove C:\DJGPP\TMP, either.
