In My Humble Opinion I have found that the "C++ Interavtice Couse" by Robert
LaFore to be an exceptional book on learning C++ ( he even delves into a few
C things). The Book is about $50 and I highly recommend it. I have had
sucess with it and DJGPP.

I would recommend getting a grasp on this (about 3 months) before moving any
further.
