It is usually quite easy. Because they have diskquotas, emacs wants to have files under /usr/local, where most users don't have write access for obvoius reasons. I never built EMACS, so that might be easily changed, but still the quotas are a problem. I can easily install whatever I want here, but on CC machines I have to accept what they offer.
