Come on, Paul, can't you look it up?  This ain't your general education 
class, y'know :-).  ``apropos'' is widely used in computer slang, there's 
even a Unix command by that name.

OK, just this once: apropos means ``concerning'', ``with reference to''.  
`index-apropos' is the Info command that looks up all the indices (you 
know what ``indices'' means, do you?) for a given string.  "index-apropos 
file" creates a menu from all (index) items that mention ``file''.
