You probably have to upgrade your GPC to beta 971001.

The external declaration of a C function that wants a string

    extern void foo ( char *bar );

reads in GPC syntax

    Procedure Foo ( Bar: CString ); C;

If you want to pass a Pascal string to that procedure just
add the #0 character manually.
