Assuming you have a little experience in structured programming, I
recommend "C++: the Complete Reference" by Herbert Schildt. Consise,
with the first half devoted to ANSI standard C, and the latter half to
C++. It covers all the bases.  I like the book.  But that's just my own
opinion...
