How would one go about to create a system where one could always specify an
RGB color no matter what video-mode one is in? Well, an obvious answer to
this is to use the allegro "makecol()" function, but what should one set
the palette to in that case?

And if I want to load several pictures, how would I get the palette's
optimized? Or should I just use the makecol() function for that too, since
that is the easiest way? It sounds like a bad idea though. 

How does ex. Netscape (or any other browser) work in Windows 256 color
modes? I know it diethers the pictures, but what does it do to the palette
really? Does it just have a "universal" palette all the time, which it
doesn't change? In that case where could I find information on dithering?
(Or does Allegro have any function(s) to do this?
