X is available for most (if not all) versions of UNIX, VMS, and yes even Windows. It isn't "built" on any specific OS but rather implements a network-transparent display interface independent of OS. > however I still think it is ugly -- primarily because there is no set > standard for it's look and feel; e.g., Netscape looks a whole lot different > than many other apps which have the plain old b/w look -- is this Xaw? -- > which I don't really mind, actually I find netscape's interface much uglier. > ... Netscape uses Motif, and depending on the vendor that produces it (SGI, Sun, HP, Digital, Metrolink, etc) you'll see slightly different looks. For example, SGI's Motif provides rounded/lighted controls very much like the ones provided by Microsoft. I think most people agree that the generic Motif look-and-feel isn't the greatest (nor Xaw, which is the "original" widget toolkit produced by MIT). You *can* customize the appearance of things fairly easily (at least as far as setting up generic color/size/font schemes). -- ________________________________________________________________________ Mike Sweet Software for SGI and Sun Easy Software Products (301) 373-9603 Workstations 44145 Airport View Drive mike AT easysw DOT com http://www.easysw.com Hollywood, Maryland 20636 SUPPORT THE ANTI-SPAM AMENDMENT! - http://www.cauce.org
