As for using the serial ports, a library that I have used and been pleased with is SVASYNC which provides low level asynchronous communication functions. It is available in v2misc or v2tk (sorry I can not remember precisely) at any DJGPP site.(like simtel) As for protocol specs, I have seen, but did not archive, code for many of them. There is a basic XMODEM program bundled with MicroC, which should be available from the same site as FreeDOS.
