Easy explanation: pgcc had problems with alignment (snapshot 0509)
the pentium cpu does not use any alignments, whereas the i486 and
ppro cpus both use 16 byte alignments for labels,, functions etc...

This is why you get alignment errors with -m486 and -mpentiumpro
