I know this may seem like a stupid question, or it has already
been answered, but I've checked the FAQ and it doesn't tell me
very much.

What exactly is the DPMI host used for?

Here is my situation: I'm working on a new OS in which we cross-compile
from DOS to the new OS. Currently we are using Turbo C to compile
things and the OS can read the MS-DOS exe format. I wanted to use
DJGPP to cross-compile, but have this stickyness that the new OS doesn't
have anything like CWSDPMI available. When the OS first starts it switches
to protected mode. 

Is there any hope? Any help is greatly appreciated!
