I wanted to post a problem but I solved it in the meantime but I consider it interesting anyway - at least I costed me several hours. I want to compile a large program system with a P100 8MB under Win95. Frequently the error: Virtual memory exhaust occured although there is plenty of free disk space and the environment varaible TMPDIR is properly set. A call of go32-v2.exe told me 7096 KB DPMI memory available 2032 KB free virtual memory space For some obscure reason go32.exe gives a different picture although the result didn't seem to be relevant (and confusing for me). 5080 KB DPMI memory available 247388 KB Swap space available I haven't replaced the Win95DPMI as DPMI provider and I don't know how to do it. The solution of the problem was as follows: In the Properties section for the MS-DOS box in the section Memory in the input field DPMI was "automatic" (which is the default). I entered 16384 there and the compilation was possible.
