I don't know about "How to build your own 32-bit OS", but there is
a series of books on the Xinu operating system.  There are vesrions
for motorola chips and intel chips.  The source for the whole thing
is widely avaiable, and the "Internetworking with TCP/IP" volume 2 uses
Xinu as the OS for the TCP/IP protocol stack code that the book describes.
