I don't particulary like it that much (there's a VERY fine line between this and censorship, and it's all too easy to cross). The only thing I agree with removing is spam (and maybe flame-wars). As to off-topic threads, some of them can be fun (like the Allegro palette fuss (the post about changing English spelling in particular)). Most threads tend to die out after a week or two (usualy just a few days). If a reader finds a thread boring, (s)he should simply skip it. As to the mailing list, well, that's a bit tougher. I use the list myself (thanks DJ for running it, otherwise I wouldn't get all this wonderfull information), and don't want to miss anything, but it IS on DJ's server and he has the right to do whatever he wants with it.
