True, but this is difficult to implement efficiently at run-time. To 
check at compile time is trivial, but not particularly useful. All in 
all, just about everybody has a copro/DX/Pentium these days, so I 
personally think it's not worth the effort.

I agree with all of these, and would make the DJGPP directory one a 
priority. I would suggest the path [...]/contrib/allegro as a sensible 
location.

     Maybe the makefile should automatically copy liballeg.a and 
     allegro.h to the lib and include directories?

- aesthetics
     IMO all references to palette and pallete should be interchanged.
