R. G.,  C is famous for such stuff. About a decade ago a Bell Labs guy here in 
the colonies wrote a book called the "C Puzzle Book" or something similar. I 
think his last name was Feuer, possibly Allan as a first name. I just checked, 
and my copy disappeared in my last move a couple years ago. You might be 
able to find it in the University of Newcastle upon Tyne library though. 

The form the book took was to exhibit a broblem like those you wrote about 
on one side of the page, and explain what the problem was and how to fix it on 
the reverse side of the page.
