This source seems to be in the Intel format.  Could it be that it was 
assembled by MASM?  If so, maybe it's some incompatibility between the 
two assemblers?  Or maybe some problems with different alignments of code 
or data?

Anyway, the solution that takes the object file out of the library is 
also OK.  Thanks for reporting this, I will update the FAQ.
