I know nothing about pure virtual functions, but did you try to search 
this Newsgroup's archive?  To do this, point your Web browser to this 
URL:
	http://www.delorie.com/djgpp/mail-archives/

and search for `pure virtual' or `pure_virtual' or some such.  This 
question seems to pop up now and then, so you should be able to find 
quite a few ideas there.
