John, in answer to one of your questions, you can get DJGPP (along with an FAQ) at you nearest SimTel mirror, for example: oak.oakland.edu/SimTel/vendors/djgpp/ There are a few readme's there that you should read that will advise you as to which files are required, which are optional, etc.
