This is to announce that I am discontinuing my port of Gnu Make to MsDog. The latest version found in archives out there (3.71 I thin as gmake371.zip) will remain there. Known problems with this is that VPATH does not work when Gnu Make is compiled with Turbo C. To avoid confusion: this discontinuation is for my port only. In particular that means that DJ's port (found where Djgpp is found) is unaffected by this. The force of my port over DJ's is that the memory usage (Turbo C compiled version only) is on the order of 10K when running the commands the makefile specifies. Djgpp version 2 (to be beta- released Real Soon[tm]) will produce programs that have a low- memory `foot print' of roughly the same size. This means that DJ's port will automatically catch up here, and since that is DJ's port's only really weak point I see no reason to continue my line of the game. My port also had the ability to automatically detect programs that could accept (_argc, _argv) environment style long command lines. This does seem very important in practice -- only Micro- soft C programs benefit -- and could be built into libc eventually.
