Subject: How to properly install djgpp?

I obtained djgpp from oak.oakland.edu and unzipped the files
mentioned in readme.1st.  However, I discovered that although
I can compile the sample code in the compress directory,
attempting to compile the code in the dpmi directory causes a
system lockup.  In fact, I can't seem to compile any C++ code.
(Yes, I did unzip gppXXX.zip and lgpXXXbn.zip.)
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might have
goofed up?  System is a 386DX/25 with 8 Megs RAM.
