Date: Tue, 10 Jan 95 10:05:22 CST From: sasbnb AT unx DOT sas DOT com Hi, In tinkering with djgpp and trying to get it to work with my 2Mb Viper vlb, and have happened upon strikingly bizarre behavior. When I eliminated my go32 variable in an attempt to use the built in vesa driver, the card reported being in the 640X480 or 800X600 mode I ordered. When it tried to draw my fractal, it was as though it was still in character mode. Character sized domains were noticeable with the character bit maps seemingly being drawn from the fractal data. It made a weird wall paper effect with irregular textures and shadowy shapes hidden in them. It has the effect of looking at people and landscapes through rice paper. There were enough screens worth of weirdness to paper a small bathroom. One screen full of data (640X480 bytes) redrew the screen dozens of times. This (along with the fact that the show went on for minutes) leads me to believe that it was writing the 300+k of fractal data to a 4k text page. Perhaps I have stumbled upon a new type of digital data perturbation to further complicate the convolutions of fractals. Has anybody seen this before? Any speculations on what could be causing this behavior? I just wish it was in some standard graphics mode so that I could capture it for study.
