near the end of this procedure which will cause a 286 to be pretty unhappy.
I personally generated this buggy code to fix a V1.10 problem; but it should
be moved up 2-3 lines so it does not get called on failure.  Shoot.

A new GO32.exe is the fix, or a very old one ;-)
