By any chance do you have an environment variable pointing at the emulator
which is sefined by a SET command with spaces around the equal sign?  DJ just
mentioned that getenv in go32 squeezes out blanks, but neglects to add a null
terminator.  This might produce exactly the symptom you are seeing.

I'd check environment variables for this one too.
