\DJGPP\BIN\NM xxxx.a

lists the symbols in an archive.

\DJGPP\BIN\AR CRV *.o libnew.a

will create an archive out of all .o files in the current dir and put 
them in libnew.a.  There are docs on the these program in bnu22dc.zip.
