One of the best (and free) MSDOS ports of TeX is "emtex".  The ultimate
source for this software is in Germany, but archie should find it at other
sites as well.  News group comp.text.tex is a very active TeX users group,
and emtex is a topic of frequent discussion.  Converting a .tex file to
PostScript is a two step process:  run tex to translate the .tex file to
a .dvi file (TeX device independent file), then run one of the DVI to PS
translators (I use dvips).  Note that any installation of TeX is a major
undertaking as it is a complex system with many interlocking pieces, and
you really need to be serious about it before starting down that path.
