Yes, the executable extracted from the official zoo archive, from wuarchive or iros1, is, as far as I can determine, simply corrupted. I don't know what the problem is, but I certainly have had little to complain of with the GNUish make: c:\>\bin\gnumake -v GNU Make version 3.58, by Richard Stallman and Roland McGrath. Stop. c:\> I have also never had MSC in any version above 4.0, so I certainly didn't compile the executable from scratch. It almost certainly came from wuarchive or SIMTEL20. Note that it is a BETA copy from 1990, however! Such as this one, on wuarchive.wustl.edu, in the directory /mirrors/msdos/gnuish/: -rw-r--r-- 1 root archive 223462 Oct 4 1990 make358.arc I've gone so far as to check the archive's contents: Name Length Stowage SF Size now Date Time CRC ============ ======== ======== ==== ======== ========= ====== ==== copying 12488 Crunched 46% 6821 4 Oct 90 3:26a 6ca3 make.exe 133990 Crunched 23% 104164 10 Sep 90 9:57a 6ed0 patches1 196771 Crunched 50% 100330 22 Sep 90 7:06p 2777 patches2 20257 Crunched 50% 10277 22 Sep 90 7:03p fc54 readme 2725 Crunched 37% 1723 22 Sep 90 7:11p be39 ==== ======== ==== ======== Total 5 366231 40% 223315 ...and the make.exe is exactly the same size, date and time as mine.
