Apparently we've moved beyond pointing out obvious facts like the existence of environment variables, the evils of writing to windows\system, how to make simple modifications to C programs, how we should use "/dev", and how we should use "/boot". The problem of /cygdrive being settable is not unsurmountable if you consider how I want to use this functionality. I'm not going to go into details since I don't want to generate another twenty messages of misconceptions. So, I've gotten all the feedback that I can use on this. Thanks. cgf
