From: parkerrd AT hotmail DOT com (Ron Parker) Subject: Q: Why a space in uname output 25 Oct 1998 21:34:08 -0800 Message-ID: <19981026050101.7575.qmail.cygnus.cygwin32.developers@hotmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain To: cygwin32-developers AT cygnus DOT com I have two questions. 1) Why was the output of uname for the system name changed from CYGWIN32_(OS) to "CYGWIN (OS)/(VERSION)"? 2) Could the space be removed? This breaks some programs and configure scripts which are not prepared to deal with spaces in uname's output. RPM for example. I realize RPM should be changed, however RCS and CVS still do not support spaces in the user's name either. Spaces are not traditionally used in UNIXish systems. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
