From: noer AT cygnus DOT com (Geoffrey Noer) Subject: Removing /// 21 Sep 1998 16:52:55 -0700 Message-ID: <19980921162126.12055.cygnus.cygwin32.developers@cygnus.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii To: cygwin32-developers AT cygnus DOT com Cc: Geoffrey Noer Hi all, OK, I'm not going to let this die. :-) So one last attempt at this, there seemed to be a fair amount of consensus last time the subject of removing /// came up. Most people seemed to think that removing it would be good idea. This includes Syd in SN land, some people on the gnu-win32 list, etc... If we did want to do this, B20 might be a good time to do it. So this is my proposal: 1) Rip out the /// handling code. 2) Accept /disk/ or /dsk/ instead? Ian pointed out once upon a time that Unix users won't expect to find file systems under /dev which makes sense to me. Alternatively, skip 2) and require people to use "mount". Opinions? Should I take a poll of the gnu-win32 list? -- Geoffrey Noer noer AT cygnus DOT com
