this was just an excerpt, sorry for being unclear.

Your code:

    if (rgid != -1)
      ERROR;
    return setegid (egid);

My tiny extension:

    if (rgid != -1)
      if (rgid == egid)
        return setuid (rgid);
      ERROR;
    return setegid (egid);
