I think it stems from me using the wimsymlinks:lnk option as documented at: https://cygwin.com/cygwin-ug-net/using-cygwinenv.html I use this as a program I package up with Cygwin needs to be easily portable and installable, and I couldn't get this to work without that option. I don't think this should matter either way, but someone else feel free to chime in and correct me.
