The previous programmer painted himself into a corner and found me. I showed my work to the client. The other programmer was retiring. In 4 months, I rebuilt his 3 years work. During the next 8 months, I finished and expanded the project for a total of $80k. Client independently rewrote the system within the last 3 years at a cost of $600,000 so far. This is all too common.
